U8 rugby passing drills
18 handling and passing drills a U8 squad is allowed to do, each with the set up, the coaching points and what it looks like from the touchline when it is going wrong.
Free to read with no account. They work at a pitch with no signal too.
What U8 is allowed here
Handling and passing arrives at U7, so a U8 squad has had it for a while. Nothing below that grade sees any of these, in the app or on this site. What U8 rugby allows is the rest of it.
The drills
Under each one is what it looks like when that drill is going wrong.
- Two ball square 6 min · 8 to 20 players · 15 x 15 m Calling for it as it arrives, which is too late
- Name and pass 5 min · 8 to 20 players · 12 x 12 m Name said as the ball is already in the air
- Rob the nest 6 min · 8 to 24 players · 25 x 25 m The ball thrown into the nest from a stride away
- Four corner passing 7 min · 8 to 20 players · 15 x 15 m Arms swinging round the body so the pass loops
- Two hand relay 8 min · 6 to 24 players · 20 m channel One hand on the ball the moment they start running
- Pass down the line 8 min · 6 to 21 players · 20 x 15 m One child a metre ahead of the rest, so the pass has to go forward
- Corner ball 10 min · 8 to 20 players · 20 x 20 m Everybody piling towards whichever corner the ball is nearest
- Catch and turn 7 min · 6 to 18 players · 10 x 10 m Waiting with the arms tucked in for the ball to arrive
- Pop pass gates 8 min · 6 to 18 players · 20 x 10 m The pass thrown hard, so the receiver has to check
- Numbers up 12 min · 9 to 21 players · 25 x 20 m Passing straight away without looking at the defence
- Loop and go 9 min · 6 to 18 players · 20 x 15 m Standing still after the pass to watch what happens
- Taking a free pass 8 min · 6 to 20 players · 15 x 10 m The ball put on the grass or rolled rather than passed out of the hands
- Follow your mate 9 min · 6 to 21 players · 20 x 15 m The two without the ball drifting in front of the carrier
- Scoop it off the floor 8 min · 4 to 20 players · 20 x 10 m Bending from the waist with straight legs and slapping it away
- Keep away in a circle 8 min · 6 to 18 players · 10 x 10 m The ball going round the outside one player at a time
- Out the back door 9 min · 6 to 18 players · 20 x 15 m Passing before the defender has committed to either side
- End ball 10 min · 8 to 24 players · 25 x 20 m Everybody standing where they passed from
- Keep ball 8 min · 8 to 20 players · 20 x 20 m Passing to whoever is closest, marker and all
