Setting it up
A group at each corner of a square. Balls at two opposite corners.
How it runs
Run across the square, pass to the group on your left, join the back of that group. Two balls going at once so there is always something happening. Ninety seconds one way then turn it round and pass right. They will all be worse at that which is worth them finding out.
What to watch for
- Pass across your body, do not swing your arms round
- Receiver runs onto the ball, do not stand and wait for it
- Look at the target before the ball leaves your hands
Make it easier
- One ball
- Walk the first minute
Make it harder
- Three balls
- Pass then sprint to the far corner instead of the near one
What it looks like when it is going wrong
What you can see from the touchline, then the one thing to say about it.
- Arms swinging round the body so the pass loops
- Push it across your chest. Do not wind up
- Standing still waiting for the ball to arrive
- Run onto it. Keep moving

The grades that can do it
What U8 rugby allows is the rule this sits under. Regulation 15 is reissued every summer, so the RFU's own rules of play are the ones to read for this season rather than a copy on somebody else's website. Ours included. Read against the RFU's 2026/27 appendices in August 2026.
