Corner ball
A handling and passing drill for U7 and up, with where the cones go, how it runs and what to say when it is not working.

Setting it up
A square with a scoring box in each far corner. Two teams. Score by putting the ball down in either box.
How it runs
Touch rules with no contest at the touch. Hand it back, play on from there. Two scoring corners instead of one line means the defence has to spread out, so the attack starts looking for the empty one on its own. Four minute games, change the teams round.
What to watch for
- Before you get the ball, look at which corner has fewer defenders
- Straighten up and hold a defender before you pass
- Support either side of the carrier, do not follow behind them
Make it easier
- More attackers than defenders
- Bigger square
Make it harder
- One touch then the ball must move within three seconds
- A third scoring corner
What it looks like when it is going wrong
What you can see from the touchline, then the one thing to say about it.
- Everybody piling towards whichever corner the ball is nearest
- Look at both corners before you get it. Which one is emptier?
- Support running behind the carrier instead of beside them
- Get level and a bit wide. Behind them is no use

The grades that can do it
What U7 rugby allows is the rule this sits under. Regulation 15 is reissued every summer, so the RFU's own rules of play are the ones to read for this season rather than a copy on somebody else's website. Ours included. Read against the RFU's 2026/27 appendices in August 2026.
