Two touch attack
An evasion and footwork drill for U10 and up, with where the cones go, how it runs and what to say when it is not working.
Free to read with no account. It works at a pitch with no signal too.

Setting it up
Two teams. Touch rules, two touches then the ball turns over.
How it runs
Only two touches before you lose it, so standing still is not an option. Play five minute halves. Then change it to three touches and watch how much lazier they get. That makes the point better than you telling them.
What to watch for
- Have your next move decided before the ball reaches you
- Somebody has to be running when the ball moves
- Two touches means two chances. Do not waste the first one
Make it easier
- Four touches
- Wider pitch
Make it harder
- One touch only
- Narrow the pitch
What it looks like when it is going wrong
What you can see from the touchline, then the one thing to say about it.
- Everybody stopping to think when the ball arrives
- Decide before it gets to you. What is your next move?
- Nobody moving, so the second touch has nowhere to go
- Somebody has to be running every time the ball moves

The grades that can do it
What U10 rugby allows is the rule this sits under. Regulation 15 is reissued every summer, so the RFU's own rules of play are the ones to read for this season rather than a copy on somebody else's website. Ours included. Read against the RFU's 2026/27 appendices in August 2026.
